Pump and filtration solutions for electroless nickel plating

Pump and filtration solutions for electroless nickel plating

With stainless steel and PVDF pumps, bag filters and cartridge filtration systems, Hendor helps equipment manufacturers and plating companies integrate reliable circulation and filtration into electroless nickel (EN) installations. Our application expertise supports the selection of equipment suited to the tank configuration, process requirements and risk of unwanted nickel deposition.

Circulation and filtration in electroless nickel processes

In electroless nickel plating, effective solution circulation supports consistent bath conditions, uniform deposition and coating thickness distribution. Filtration helps remove unwanted particles that could otherwise become incorporated into the nickel deposit, causing surface roughness, defects and corrosion issues.

The selection of pumps and filters therefore goes beyond flow capacity and chemical resistance. Pump construction, installation configuration and filtration technology all influence how the system performs and how easily it can be maintained.

Hendor offers several pump and filtration solutions that can be combined according to the specific requirements of an EN installation.

Stainless steel and PVDF pump solutions

D16 stainless steel vertical immersion pumps

The Hendor D16 SS series combines stainless steel 316L construction with a cantilever design, eliminating mechanical shaft seals and bearings in the pumped liquid.

For electroless nickel applications, the D16 can be equipped with an optional connection for the anodic protection system to help prevent unwanted nickel deposition on internal pump components, including the impeller and volute.

Depending on the installation requirements, in-tank and out-of-tank configurations are available.

For more information about the construction and application-specific features of this series, read our article: Beneficial for electroless nickel applications: Hendor D16 SS.

D18, D90 and D120 PVDF vertical immersion pumps

Hendor also offers the D18, D90 and D120 vertical immersion pump series in PVDF for electroless nickel applications.

These pumps combine chemical-resistant construction with a rigid cantilever design, allowing to run without mechanical shaft seals or bearings in the pumped liquid. This reduces the number of wear-prone and nickel-pick-up sensitive components and supports reliable operation with limited maintenance requirements.

Depending on the selected series and tank design, different installation configurations can be considered, including in-tank and out-of-tank arrangements.

The choice between stainless steel and PVDF depends on the material selected for the tank and rest of the installation. And whether the installation is equipped with an anodic protection system (Protektostat).

Filtration solutions for electroless nickel baths

Effective filtration helps maintain bath cleanliness by removing particles that could affect the quality of the nickel deposit and its corrosion resistance. Hendor offers several filtration technologies for different installation and process requirements.

Stainless steel bag filtration systems

Hendor stainless steel bag filters provide a solution for particle removal in electroless nickel baths.

As an option, these systems can be equipped with an connection for the anodic protection system to help manage unwanted nickel deposition on exposed metal surfaces.

PVDF cartridge filtration systems

For applications requiring PVDF construction, Hendor offers cartridge filter chambers that can be integrated into the circulation and filtration system.

The selection of filter media and configuration depends on the required filtration performance, flow rate and characteristics of the plating solution.

Open bag filtration

For more simple electroless nickel installations, open bag filters can provide a functional and economical filtration solution.

Their suitability depends on the process conditions, filtration requirements and installation design.

Circulation and Agitation

For airless circulation, at Hendor we have tank-mix eductors available in both PVDF and stainless steel. Additionally, we aid installation builder with the eductor system.

Selecting the right combination for your installation

The most suitable pump and filtration configuration depends on how the electroless nickel installation is designed and operated.

Factors such as tank dimensions, solution chemistry, temperature, required circulation and filtration capacity determine which equipment and materials are appropriate.

By combining stainless steel and PVDF pump technologies with different filtration options, Hendor helps OEMs and plating companies develop circulation and filtration arrangements that support consistent process conditions, reliable operation and manageable maintenance requirements.
